Chao YANG, Yun-fei GUO, Hong-chao HU, Ya-wen WANG, Qing TONG, Ling-shu LI

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2019, Volume 20, Issue 5,   Pages 731-748 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1800526

Abstract:

Co-residency of different tenants’ virtual machines (VMs) in cloud provides a good chance for side-channelVM migration, an inherit mechanism of cloud systems, envisions a promising countermeasure, which limitsActive state is periodically switched between executors to simulate defensive effect of VM migration. To enhance the defense, real VM migration is enabled at the same time.Instead of solving the migration satisfiability problem with intractable CIRCUIT-SAT, a greedy-like heuristic

VirtMan: design and implementation of a fast booting system for homogeneous virtual machines in iVCE

Zi-yang Li, Yi-ming Zhang, Dong-sheng Li, Peng-fei Zhang, Xi-cheng Lu,ymzhang@nudt.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2016, Volume 17, Issue 2,   Pages 110-121 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1500216

Abstract: has been proposed to combine data centers and other kinds of computing resources on the Internet to provide efficient and economical services. s (VMs) have been widely used in iVCE to isolate different users/jobs and ensure trustworthiness, but traditionally VMs require a long period of time for booting, which cannot meet the requirement of iVCE’s large-scale and highly dynamic applications. To address this problem, in this paper we design and implement VirtMan, a system for a large number of s in iVCE. VirtMan uses the Linux Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) target to remotely mount to the source image in a scalable hierarchy, and leverages the of a set of VMs to transfer only necessary image data at runtime. We have implemented VirtMan both as a standalone system and for OpenStack. In our 100-server testbed, VirtMan boots up 1000 VMs (with a 15 GB image of Windows Server 2008) on 100 physical servers in less than 120 s, which is three orders of magnitude lower than current public clouds.
